Many years, O Master!
Dear Father Archbishop +Nathaniel, please let this letter convey The Brotherhood USA’s congratulations and thanks to God Sustainer-of-All on Your Eminence’s 30th Anniversary of elevation as our Episcopate’s ruling hierarch. With admiring thanks we celebrate Your Eminence’s enthronement at Saint George Cathedral. Decades of growth in numbers and faithful zeal, the result of Archpastoral care, moderation, foresight, but most of all integrity, a worthy successor to Confessors Bishop +Policarp and Archbishop +Valerian of blessed memory.
You have steered the course as a thoughtful helmsman, welcoming, encouraging and, like a true shepherd, caring for your flock. After 1989 Your Eminence challenged The Brotherhood & the Episcopate to work & sacrifice for the charities Help the Children of Romania & Help for Romania, so that millions in goods made their way into needy hands; you ensured they arrived safely via direct action with Romania’s local dioceses, thus helping restore the Church’s image and reputation in a society bruised by a half-century of Communism. Our recent immigrants were received as family, with St George among many parishes sponsoring missions until they could stand on their own.
Your Eminence wisely founded and supported CORA, Congress of Romanian Americans, elevating our image with our U.S. Federal Government. While other ethnic charity groups withered away after the first flush of enthusiasm, Your Eminence made our Vatra Episcopate respected, by ensuring that material and personnel were devoted over the long term. You have been all that a father can be: loving yet strict, loyal to your Synod yet open to pan-Orthodox Dialogue. I recall Your Eminence opening the doors of Saint George to His Holiness Pope +Shenouda III of Alexandria and All Africa, of blessed memory.
Yours has been The Way of moderation with vision. As longtime patron of the OCL Orthodox Christian Laity you urged The Brotherhood to support OCL’s program for an independent American Orthodox Church. Your vision and support gave life to our rewarding Family Life Conference at our Episcopate’s Vatra Romaneasca, that celebrates its 3rd year gathering in 2015. Our Episcopate has published many service books in modern English and Romanian, along with the Psalter, prayers, calendars and Lives of Saints in many formats, internet included. Your Eminence has honored the past, called us to be ever- zealous in The Faith, building like a wise master builder on the firm foundation which is Jesus Christ, Who is The Savior and The Light of North America, as He is of Romania and the whole world.
Your Eminence has toiled to make the life in Christ real, teaching us that far from Jesus Christ representing something to us (whether a nostalgic past, or politics, or philosophy), Our Lord must be for us our Bridegroom and Savior, in this life, in this place we live, and forever.
Intru Multi Ani, Stapane!
